 As the Darwin D. Martin House, a century-old masterwork of architecture, is restored
in Buffalo, WNED concludes its documentation of the
process and explores the significance of this community treasure.
In this third and final part of the WNED-TV series, recently recorded
video segments allow viewers to:
- Learn more about how the City of Buffalo affected the renown architect’s future,
and how the architect continues to influence modern architecture.
- Share in the enthusiasm of 350 volunteers who play a vital role in operating this National
Historic Landmark as a museum.
- Discover unrealized works by Frank Lloyd Wright, as efforts progress to build three
never-before-built designs (a boathouse; a filling station and a mausoleum). Includes
an interview with Buffalo native and television writer/producer Tom Fontana (Homicide,
Oz), an avid supporter of the Frank Lloyd Wright Rowing Boathouse project.
 In the studio, host Drew Kahn, Buffalo State College associate professor,
interviews:
- Eric Lloyd Wright, grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright. A practicing
architect in Malibu, California, E.L. Wright discusses his grandfather’s work in
Buffalo and how critical it was to his own career.
- John Courtin, outgoing executive director, Martin House Restoration
Corporation.
- Margie Stehlik, director of volunteers, Martin House Restoration Corporation.
In addition to the local SAVING A LANDMARK series, WNED-TV is producing
a Frank Lloyd Wright documentary for PBS. Scheduled to air nationwide in fall 2006, FRANK
LLOYD WRIGHT’S BUFFALO highlights the city’s important role in fostering
Wright’s groundbreaking career.
The Frank Lloyd Wright projects are funded, in part, by a grant from the Margaret L. Wendt
