CHAUTAUQUA: AN AMERICAN NARRATIVE
s s

Buffalo’s Wild Bill Donovan

WNED Airdate: 2010

The Chautauqua Institution is often called “the original PBS.” It is a community of ideas where education and entertainment blend to feed the mind and spirit. Chautauqua is a setting where thought and culture come together on an open, public platform for informed discussion and debate. There is no other place like it in America. This one-hour HD documentary focuses on the contemporary story of the Chautauqua Institution while using its rich history to provide context and perspective. The program explores this sometimes forgotten, frequently misunderstood, one-of-a-kind place. The program will capture the Chautauqua Institution’s pervasive yet muddled place at the center of American culture and history.

Funding provided by: The John R. Oishei Foundation, Erie Insurance, Gary and Willow Brost, Erick and Marianne Laine and the Cutco Foundation, The Chautauqua County Legislature and the Department of Planning and Economic Development, Tom Hyde, the Hyde Family Charitable Fund and Barbara and Peter Georgescu.
