Life Journeys - Solutions for Caregivers
More than 50 million Americans are helping to care for a sick or elderly loved one. If you are one of them, you should know about the Life Journeys Solutions for Caregivers public broadcast television and outreach initiative presented by the American Red Cross in partnership with The John R. Oishei Foundation, WNED TV and ThinkBright. This initiative is designed for people who help provide care for an elderly or chronically ill loved one. It's an easy way for you to build caregiving skills and learn how to reduce stress, understand legal, financial and medical issues and balance work and home responsibilities.

Life Journeys Solutions for Caregivers is a public television series that takes a closer look at the trials and triumphs of family caregiving. With 50 million Americans playing this pivotal role in the life of a sick or elderly loved one, the need for informational and empowering television programming has never been greater. Join host, Susan Hunt, a well-known Buffalo producer and experienced caregiver, explore a wide range of issues and topics that will help families increase their knowledge and skills, while decreasing their levels of stress.

Life Journeys â€“ Solutions for Caregivers is hosted by Susan Hunt, a TV personality and former caregiver. Susan and her guests explore the fundamental steps of the caregiving journey through sharing personal experiences and information, as well as video stories.
In this first episode, we focus on the basics of caregiving. Topics of discussion include:
- The national crisis of caregiving
- Identifying yourself as a caregiver
- The importance of a family meeting and effective communication
- Important legal and financial documents
A Day in the Life of a Caregiver
Some caregivers refer to their day as the 36 hour day. Between balancing family life, sometimes another job, and caring for your loved one, the days can be long and stressful.
This episode will follow a caregiving families through the day to day challenges they face.
We will discuss proper nutrition, time management, moving and positioning, creating a safe environment, and taking time out for yourself.
The third episode in this series takes a look at outside support available to home caregiving, taking care of the caregiver, effective communication with the healthcare system, and exploring caregiving options when you can no longer care for your loved one at home.
Caregivers will learn about the three important steps in being prepared: making a plan, building a kit, and being informed.
