Poulenc's Organ Concerto and Durufle's Requiem
Sunday, March 09, 2014, 11:00am - 12:00pm

Westminster presents the breathtaking and enigmatic Requiem by Maurice Duruflé. A piece based on Gregorian Chant, it is described by the composer as representing the idea "of Peace, of Faith and of Hope."  This masterpiece of the choral repertoire is presented for choir, organ, and orchestra.

Francis Poulenc considered his Concerto for Organ, Timpani, and Strings in g minor the first of his faith-inspired works. It has been called a work of profoundly haunting beauty, and is considered by many to be the most beautiful in the repertoire.

Garrett Martin will serve as organist for both the Requiem and Concerto, performing on the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ in the historic Sanctuary; Martin is Organist and Choirmaster at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Buffalo, New York. Scott H. Atchison will serve as guest conductor of the choir and orchestra; Atchison is an Organist and Director of Music at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
