Marty Wimmer has been with WNED-FM since 1995. He is host of Tuesday Night Opera & Saturday Morning Classics. He also appears on WNED-TV anchoring membership drives. In the community, Marty hosts several events on behalf of WNED, including New York Metropolitan Opera Auditions. During the day, Marty is a full-time music teacher in the public schools.
Martin J. Wimmer (Marty) is also an award-winning composer and teacher. His choral work, "Peace" won First Prize in the Vincent Brown Silliman 2010 Choral Anthem Competition. It was also a finalist in the 2007 Ithaca College Choral Composition Contest. His music has been performed by numerous ensembles across the US, including the Festival Choir of Madison, Sine Nomine (Denver), the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus (2008 GALA Festival, Miami), the Young Naperville Singers (IL), the Buffalo-Niagara Youth Chorus, the Chromatic Club of Buffalo, the Cheektowaga Community Chorus, and the Freudig Singers of WNY who commissioned Marty to write a new work in celebration of the ensemble's 25th anniversary in 2009. As a teacher, Marty won a NYSUT Leadership Award in 2003.
Marty holds degrees in Music Education (SU) and Musicology (UB). He is a member of the Erie County Music Educators Association and the American Composers Forum - "reminding you that all music was once new."
