WNED CHARACTER BREAKFAST CANADA FEATURES FIVE PBS STARS

Kid Fest Event Offers Fun, Family Educational Activities

Some of public television’s most popular characters will welcome families to Dave & Busters, 120 Interchange Way in Concord, Ontario during the first WNED Character Breakfast Canada, a WNED Kid Fest event. This engaging, high-energy program takes place Saturday, February 14 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit WNED.

Young fans can hob nob and dine with the PBS characters as well as local mascots. Fun, family activities — many related to popular PBS KIDS programs — also will be featured.

Highlights include:

  • Personal appearances by new PBS star Sid the Science Kid; the mischievous monkey Curious George; the loveable talking dog from Martha Speaks!; the powerful “Super Reader” Super Why; and the irresistible four-year-old Caillou;
  • A full buffet breakfast with kid- and adult-friendly foods;
  • Sid the Science KidColoring Contest;
  • Kid Fest Craft and Activity Zone: games and crafts that reinforce the message: “Reading is fun!”

“We take pride in bringing quality children’s television to our viewing public,” said Donald K. Boswell, WNED’s President and CEO. “Kid Fest extends the programs’ concept of fun learning experiences to a face-to-face celebration. It’s a unique, affordable event geared to our youngest viewers in Canada.”

“Because of their ability to teach through engaging content, PBS KIDS’ programs consistently earn the endorsement of parents, children, industry leaders and educators,” said Sylvia Bennett, WNED’s Vice President of Development. “Please join this wonderful celebration and experience – live – the excitement of Public Television’s best children’s characters.”

The cost is $20 per adult and $15 per child ages 1-12 (under 1 free). For advance tickets and information, call (888) 202-2859 or visit wned.org.

After the breakfast, the Dave & Busters Million Dollar Midway, featuring more than 200 classic, interactive and video games, will be open for business.

WNED Kid Fest 2009 includes events in both the Buffalo and Toronto areas. The Canadian breakfast is sponsored by the Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft Nature Preserve. Dave & Busters is the event’s community partner.
