(Buffalo, N.Y.) -- Experience life in Clarence, N.Y. through the eyes of 22 residents who captured the people, places and happenings of their hometown for the latest installment of WNED-TV’s OUR TOWN series.
In June, the volunteer filmmakers videotaped topics of interest or unique town assets, including history, architecture, schools, businesses and natural places. Their video footage was edited and compiled into the television program, OUR TOWN: Clarence. The volunteers also were interviewed about the topics they covered, and their commentary serves as the narration behind the program.
The resulting “video scrapbook” premieres on WNED-TV Sat., Sept. 25 at 6:30 pm.
The program showcases a town of about 26,000 people and 52 square miles northeast of Buffalo. Segments highlight The Asa Ransom House, named for Clarence’s first resident; the town’s Native American influence; and area horse farms. (See complete list of volunteers and their chosen topics below.)
Underwriting assistance for the Clarence production was provided by Greatbatch. The Town of Clarence, the Clarence Public Library, the Asa Ransom House and the Town of Clarence Clubhouse provided production support and The Clarence Bee offered promotional support.
While reinforcing hometown pride for residents, WNED’s OUR TOWN series helps build awareness about regional gems in Western New York and Southern Ontario.
Since 2003, WNED has produced 14 other OUR TOWN programs, featuring Brantford, Kitchener/Waterloo, Markham, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Oakville, St. Catharines and Welland in Ontario, Canada, and Dunkirk/Fredonia, East Aurora, Ellicottville, Jamestown, Kenmore/Tonawanda, Lockport and Orchard Park in Western New York. Niagara Falls, Ontario will be the next town featured in a program scheduled for December 2010. The series adopts the concept of “a day in the life” picture books, using video instead of photographs.
