TWO NEW WNED PROGRAMS COVER HEALTH MANGAGEMENT; DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

November 18 Premieres Highlight Community Outreach Campaigns

November 18 marks the premiere of two new WNED-TV productions that are part of separate community outreach campaigns designed to foster awareness about personal health care management and disaster preparedness for older adults. Both programs are hosted by broadcaster, lifestyle host and Western New York native Susan Hunt.

“WNED is proud to join forces with other concerned organizations to enhance the resources of public broadcasting, said Pamela Johnson, Ph.D., WNED’s Vice President for Education & Outreach.  “Through these collaborations, WNED and our respective partners want to empower people with knowledge that can enhance their lives and their ability to care for themselves and their loved ones,”

MY HEALTH COUNTS! Partnering with Your Doctor is the first of three programs designed to encourage proactive health care management and behaviors on the part of patients. The program will air Tuesday, November 18 at 8 pm on WNED-TV and will be rebroadcast November 23 at 10 pm on WNED-TV and November 24 at 9 pm on ThinkBright TV (Time Warner 21/Digital 17.3).

Viewers will learn how to build and grow a relationship with medical professionals. The program features information from experts as well as inspiring stories about people who have made positive changes in their personal health.

The MY HEALTH COUNTS! series and related learning resources, including a Web site and community events, are being developed in partnership with the P2 Collaborative of Western New York. Major funding is provided by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, with additional funding from Catholic Health Systems, Atwal Eye Associates and The McGuire Group. Foundation support is provided by “Aligning Forces For Quality,” an initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The John R. Oishei Foundation and The Robert J. Stransky Foundation.

More information is available at thinkbright.org and a ThinkBright Health & Wellness Program Guide can be acquired at local libraries.

The fourth program in the LIFE JOURNEYS – SOLUTIONS FOR CAREGIVERS series, focusing on preparing older adults for emergencies, premieres Tuesday, November 18 at 8:30 pm on WNED-TV. The program will be rebroadcast November 25 at 10:30 pm on WNED-TV and November 24 at 9:30 pm on ThinkBright TV.

Following the journey of a Buffalo caregiver, viewers will learn how to create an emergency action plan specifically geared to older adults. Disaster preparedness and senior services experts will offer practical tips and information.

Through the LIFE JOURNEYS public awareness campaign, the American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter, is partnering with WNED to offer resources and information for caregivers. This multi-media effort is funded by The John R. Oishei Foundation, the Weinberg Campus and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
