DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONSUpdated Dec. 2015
Position summary:Working in conjunction with Senior Director of Development and Corporation Communications and other members of WNED | WBFO senior staff, the Director of Corporate Communications role is to successfully develop and execute all aspects of a comprehensive corporate communications plan, ensuring high quality, well-known identities for the WNED|WBFO stations, initiatives, organization and partnerships.
Responsibilities Include: Develop and execute WNED | WBFO’s branding, positioning and image strategies. Through effective multi-media, strategies create brand identity and distinctive image that accurately reflects the scope, quality, reach and impact of all WNED|WBFO services.
Maintain and/or develop strong relationships with media, community leaders, public broadcasting peers and national organizations (on both sides of the border) in order to advance the mission and goals of WNED | WBFO.
Promote and enhance WNED | WBFO’s lesser known brands (ThinkBright and Well/ WORLD and Jazzworks) through effective marketing and communication strategies.
Establish WNED | WBFO as a national content provider within the public broadcasting industry and national media. Oversee all web, social media, advertising, promotion, graphics, and publicity activities for WNED-TV’s national productions.
Oversee all aspects of the creation and final production of the organization’s digital member guide, WNED | WBFO Magazine.
Work with Membership staff to create and launch a new “members only” section of the site. Actively promote WNED | WBFO program content in a variety of formats, especially taking advantage of new technologies and trends in social media advertising (through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, station Apps and utilizing e-newsletters, e-blasts, web, etc.) Work with Development Division on creation of the yearly WNED|WBFO Annual Report and various “one sheet” descriptive materials about the organization as a whole (all stations) and its individual local program productions.
Hire, train and manage department staff and manage overall budget. Serve as member of the President’s staff and perform other duties as assigned.Manage booking and installation of exhibits that display in WNED | WBFO’s Horizon’s Gallery
Seek out and host promotional screening events for various PBS, NPR, APT, etc. series/programs. These will be live studio events that are FREE to the general public.[ NOTE: promotional event list must be coordinated with Fundraising Events Department in order to determine which are to be free and which are to be ticketed events.] Additionally, coordinate WNED | WBFO presence at many WNY and Southern Ontario regional festivals (i.e. Taste of Buffalo, Allentown Art Festival, TIFF, etc.)
Qualifications & Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree required; communications, journalism or broadcasting preferred.• Minimum of 5 years’ management experience is preferred, ideally in media and/or non-profit setting. • Deep interest in and commitment to lifelong learning. • Experience managing staff, budgets, timelines and strategic plans. • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Position: Managing Editor, Great Lakes Regional Journalism CollaborativeLocation: WNED | WBFO, Buffalo, NY
WNED | WBFO, Buffalo, WXXI, Rochester, and ideastream, Cleveland are seeking an experienced journalist to lead the Great Lakes Regional Journalism Collaboration, funded by a major grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The Managing Editor is responsible for the editorial strategy and journalism of the collaboration and for the overall management of the project. This includes managing reporters at three stations and other staff to accomplish the objectives of the RJC and managing all components of the RJC.

Position Title: Radio News Producer/Reporter/Host
Reports to: News Director

The Radio Producer/Reporter/Host serves as news producer for the Morning Edition shift on WBFO with responsibility for coordinating news coverage, writing news stories, delivering news stories as needed, setting up live interviews, and supporting the Morning Edition host. The position also serves as news reporter and as on-air news host as scheduled.
