Conductor David Handel Re: "The Latin Beat"

After working with Kurt Masur at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and then on to 14 years with the National Symphony of Bolivia, David Handel comes home to guest conduct the Amherst Symphony Orchestra, this Sunday afternoon, February 8th, at 3pm.  It's a free concert at the Amherst Middle School called "The Latin Beat" and WNED's Peter Hall found out more.

 

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra presents "Miraculous Miniatures II" featuring SUNY Fredonia music faculty members in new compositions and arrangements by their Artistic Director Glen Cortese.  Music by Bizet, Mahler, Copland, and Cortese can be heard Friday, February 6th at 7:30 in Orchard Park and Sunday, February 8th at Fredonia's Rosch Recital Hall.  Find out what a composer/arranger thinks about in this conversation between Glen and WNED's Peter Hall.

Violinist Augustin Hadelich

Violinist Augustin Hadelich thoroughly enjoys playing a Stradivarius violin (nicknamed  "Ex-Kiesewetter") on loan to him from Buffalo's Clement and Karen Arrison.  When he played Brahms Violin Concerto with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra he spoke about the instrument to WNED's Peter Hall.

Harpist Yolanda Kondonassis

Harpist Yolanda Kondonassis appears at Kleinhans Music Hall with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Sphinx Competition winner flutist Demarre McGill Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2:30.  She’s just released the new CD “Together” with guitarist Jason Vieaux and spoke with WNED’s Peter Hall about that CD, her harp, and dealing with Lake Erie snow storms.
