Since launching WNED Classical Live on Stage this past April we’ve had five classical concerts in our new performance space – with six more already planned. Reviews have been glowing with both musicians and audiences expressing sincere appreciation for our effort to showcase local talent. Tickets become available about a month before the event. Let’s take a quick look at what’s already happened and at what’s still ahead.
Alex Hughes & Joe Isgar play music for flute and piano in Buffalo Toronto Public Media's performance space in the WNED-Classical studios. The program includes three works for flute and piano by composers who just love the flute, including contemporary American composer Gary Schocker - the most published living composer of flute music in the world.

Flutist Alex Hughes holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from SUNY Fredonia, and a Master of Music Performance degree from Ithaca College. He has performed extensively throughout Western New York on both flute and oboe, most notably with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and Erie County Wind Ensemble. Mr. Hughes currently teaches instrumental music and music history at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
Pianist Joe Isgar is a Buffalo-based music director, voice teacher, and actor. Recent credits include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (TOY), The Addams Family (O’Connell and Company), Tick, Tick…Boom (SGT), and The Rink (O’Connell and Company). Joe is a founding member of The Enchords, UB’s only all-gender a cappella group which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
This lively program, featuring pianist Christopher Sierzchula, offers a brief history of the mazurka - a Polish dance form that inspired some of Chopin’s most intimate musical ideas.
The program contrasts early and late Chopin mazurkas, as well as mazurkas by other composers such as Debussy, Scriabin, and Szymanowski, and was recorded at Buffalo Toronto Public Media on June 10, 2023.

Pianist Christopher Sierzchula studied with Yvar Mikoshoff and Livingston Gearhart at UB where he earned a master’s degree in Piano Performance and won the Baird Concerto Competition - twice! Mr. Sierzchula is also a Rock and Jazz musician and a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) He is the accompanist at the Unitarian Universalist Church at Elmwood and West Ferry in Buffalo, NY.
Join the Buffalo Chamber Players for an exploration of works for string trio, from the Baroque to the contemporary. The program includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Dohnányi, and Caroline Mallonee.

About the Buffalo Chamber Players:
As Buffalo’s preeminent chamber music ensemble, the Buffalo Chamber Players presents innovative
