An Evening With Lidia Bastianich
In July 2017 WNED | WBFO welcomed chef, cookbook author and television personality Lidia Bastianich to the WNED-TV studios for a sold-out event. The evening included a lively discussion led by Eileen Eibol where the Emmy Award-winning chef discussed her exciting career, shared her cooking secrets and provided the inspiration for all of her fabulous dishes!
Attendees also enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Banchetti by Rizzo’s, received a copy of her cookbook, “Lidia’s Favorite Recipes: 100 Foolproof Italian Dishes” and even had the chance to have the book personally autographed, while taking their own selfie with Lidia!
One of the highlights of the evening was when Lidia reminisced about how she got her start as the host of a cooking show on public television. Back in 1993, an acclaimed chef who had visited Lidia’s New York restaurant was impressed with her classic Italian cooking, and later asked her to be a guest on her show. That woman, who later became Lidia’s mentor, was none other than Julia Child herself.
Lidia announced that one of her most successful collaborative endeavors, the popular Italian superstore and playground for foodies called “Eataly,” is coming to Toronto! The 50,000 square foot, three-story space will be opening in 2019 as part of the Manulife Center renovations in Yorkville.
