Join Suzanne & Daniel, as they present A Medieval Valentine – Explore romantic, bawdy, spiritual and playful love songs in A Medieval Valentine with medieval music experts (and husband and wife) Suzanne Fatta and Daniel Yost. This is a rare chance to hear medieval music performed on authentic period instruments, most of which are handmade by Daniel, a master luthier. You’ll think you’re actually on WNED Classical’s early music program, Millennium of Music! The program also includes a preview of an upcoming concert with Roland Hayes, the third member of their Pavana Early Music Trio.

The event is free but you must register to attend.

Buffalo Toronto Public Media is conveniently located in downtown Buffalo at 140 Lower Terrace, near the I-190. The entrance to our parking lot is on Charles Street (also known as "Mark Russell Alley").

Suzanne Fatta | Singer, Medievalist, Musicologist, Lyre 

Possessing a unique and powerful voice, Suzanne is a low Contralto based in Buffalo, NY, performing in top venues in Europe and North America. For 5 years she lived in York UK, where she studied historical performance practice with Grammy-winners John Potter (Hilliard Ensemble) and Robert Hollingworth (I Fagiolini), and Philip Thorby. Ms. Fatta sings professionally as a Bass in the world-famous Vivaldi's Women choir as seen in BBC and SkyArts documentaries. In addition to Pavana Early Music Trio, Suzanne is also the Founder and Artistic Director of The Women of Vivaldi, official US sister group to Vivaldi's Women. 

Suzanne holds an MA in Medieval Studies from Harvard University where she specialized in female mysticism, Franciscan piety, and Ars subtilior. Doctoral studies in Historical Performance Practice at both Eastman and the University of York (UK) led to her acting in the world-famous York Mystery Plays, and founding her own Medieval theater troupe which made their for-profit debut at the British Museum. 

Suzanne has performed in many plays, music-dramas and "operas" across the Middle Ages in Latin, Anglo-Saxon, Middle English, Old Norse, Umbrian and Arabic. She and her husband Daniel aim to revive and centralize the Buffalo/Niagara early music scene. In fact, you may recognize her from headlining a WinterFest Vivaldi series with Music Niagara, in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Daniel Yost | Instrument Maker; Guitarist; Voice 

With over 17 years of experience, Daniel Yost is a highly-in demand Luthier originally from Argentina, now based in Buffalo NY, specializing in historical plucked stringed instruments. Daniel is also the Founder of a Music School in his home town where he taught for 30 years; along with the Choral Ensembles that he Founded/ Directed, he has performed in Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, Uruguay and across Argentina.  

Residing in Syracuse for some years, he directed the choir of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. During this time, he achieved his Certification as a Professional Luthier from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires de las Artes (summa cum laude). Mr. Yost has a passion for teaching children how to make instruments from found and everyday objects. Daniel is proud to be the Official Repair/ Restore Master of the Lute Society of America's collection. He and his wife Suzanne are constantly chasing the dogs around when not making music together.
